Smith County Judge Nathaniel Moran issued at two-week “Stay at Home” order for all Smith County residents on Friday, March 27, 2020. The “Stay at Home Order” takes effect at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2020, and will continue through 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2020, unless otherwise extended or terminated by further order of Judge Moran.

The order stipulates that all “Non-Essential” services and employees throughout Smith County are to stay home during this time of social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).  Smith County residents are encouraged to view the full order posted at www.Smith-County.com for more information on which services are considered “Essential” and “Non-Essential.”

What impact does the “Stay at Home” order have on Tyler ISD?

  • District Employees - District staff who are identified as “Essential” have been notified and will continue to report for work in their respective areas in order to perform key responsibilities throughout the District. “Non-essential” staff will remain at home; however, they will continue working remotely as needed. District staff who have further questions should contact their supervisors. Contact hours for campuses and District Administration Offices will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, however email will be the best form of communication during this time. Campus and/or District department contact information can be found at tylerisd.org.
  • Distance Learning –Distance Learning will continue as planned. Students utilizing the workbooks and/or learning packets to complete assignments will continue to do so as well. If you have questions, please contact your campus or teacher directly.
  • Curbside Meals and East Texas Food Bank Food Boxes – Curbside Meals will continue at Boulter, Hubbard, Moore, and Three Lakes middle schools, Caldwell Arts Academy, and Griffin, Austin and Peete elementary schools from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Securing food for self and/or family is considered an “Essential” need and allowable under the Order. East Texas Food Bank will continue to distribute food boxes at scheduled locations throughout the week as well. Go to tylerisd.org/covid19 to view this distribution schedule. Additionally, Tyler ISD transportation will continue delivering meals to select apartment complexes in which large amounts of Tyler ISD students reside.

Our city, county and health organizations are working hard to keep us all safe and healthy, and we will do our part as a school district to assist them in these efforts. Please take the “Stay at Home” order seriously and adhere to its call to help increase social distancing efforts by staying home as much as possible.

Tyler ISD understands that the timeline of the county’s Stay at Home order extends past Gov. Greg Abbott’s State order closing schools through April 3. At this time, school closure is a decision at the State level. Currently, we are awaiting guidance from Austin that could extend the closure beyond that time. We will be able to communicate further timelines later next week.
