Tyler Legacy color guard girls pose with their grand champion trophy

This past Saturday, the Tyler Legacy High School Color Guard competed in the North Texas Colorguard Association’s (NTCA) Grand Championship Competition at Lewisville High School. They entered the contest as 1 of 43 participating teams performing their indoor competitive show and walked away named NTCA RAA Grand Champions!

“We worked so hard to get to this moment, to have our names called for first place,” senior Color Guard Captain Avery Curbow said. “I have never felt such great pride in myself and especially my team, getting to stand there with my new family members (teammates) was an amazing experience!”

Preparing for their spring competitive season took many months of writing choreography and rehearsing. Additionally, students must compete in at least two prior competitions to qualify for Grand Championships. They competed on February 26 and March 12, where they earned 1st place in their classification.

At the Grand Championships competition, the Tyler Legacy Color Guard competed in prelims in the second round of four and got 1st place in their round. To advance to finals, they had to be in the top 10 in prelims, which they successfully did.

“It felt amazing to win the title of Grand Champions in my first year,” freshman Aaliyah Thatcher said. â€śWe worked hard for it, and it was worth every minute!”

This is the first time in school history that the team has earned the title of Grand Champions. They earned a score of 87.43, which was a full two points higher than the second-place team.

The Tyler Legacy Color Guard is under the direction of Stephanie Lenhart and Sydney Hathcock and a part of the Tyler Legacy High School Band program.

Congratulations to the Tyler Legacy High School Color Guard!
