Tyler Legacy High School students participated in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) competition, with teams winning first place in multiple events. The UIL exists to provide educational extracurricular academic, athletic, and music contests. The initials UIL have come to represent quality educational competition administered by school people on an equitable basis.

“I am very proud of our students who competed and the coaches who work with them,” Tyler Legacy UIL Coordinator Jennifer Perry said. “I am grateful to lead a great group of people with the same mindset as me. At the beginning of the school year, I set a goal to defend our district championship from last year and ensure that every event had a full team of students. We successfully represented each event with full teams and defended our district championship. I would say that is a successful season!”

Students participating in UIL have weekly practice with their coaches to prepare for competition and study individually for their specific subject. They attended a practice meet in the fall and spring at Whitehouse High School. These events gave students experience with other competitors in their categories. Over Spring Break, the science and math teams attended other practice meets, including Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) state.

The UIL district that Legacy High competes in comprises Dallas Skyline, Rockwall, Rockwall Heath, Mesquite, Mesquite Horn, and North Mesquite. Regional qualifiers will head to Baylor University in Waco on April 22-23. Winners there will become state qualifiers.
