Andy Woods Elementary School 2nd grader Mae Mae Ewing won the state K-2 PTA-sponsored Reflections contest. The contest's theme was, "I Will Change the World By..." and Mae Mae wrote about how she would help homeless people. Texas PTA received nearly 800 entries for state-level judging. She is the only Texas K-2 entry in literature to advance to the National competition where she will compete against 49 entries. Winners will be announced on May 1 and receive a paid trip to D.C. and an $800 scholarship.

"We are super excited for her and this whole experience," Mae Mae's father, Jamie Ewing, said. "Her mother and I are so proud of her accomplishment."

Reflections has been a staple arts program for over 50 years in many schools. Through the efforts of local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.

With positive recognition as the focus of this program, rather than competition, students of all ages and abilities can experience the benefits of creative expression and help find their voice in telling their unique stories.

Started in 1969 by Mary Lou Anderson, then Colorado PTA President, Reflections has grown to be one of the largest nationwide programs of its kind, with more than 200,000 students participating annually.
