Congratulations to our District Secondary Teacher of Month, Kierra Green, AVID Coordinator at Boulter Middle School.

Ms. Green has enhanced the AVID program on campus tremendously. Students are fully engaged as they continue to sharpen their skills as an AVID student. Ms. Green wanted to give students an experience that all AVID students don’t have in common and that was going on a college tour outside of Texas.

Knowing that most of her students had never traveled outside of Texas, she decided to try and change that and received approval. Then she faced an obstacle as district transportation does not travel beyond Texas state lines.

Not one to give up easily, Ms. Green immediately gathered her resources and, along with the AVID students, raised more than $2,000 for charter buses to take the group to Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana.

Ms. Green had this to say:

"We are extremely grateful for those who helped us make this possible. This was a great learning experience for them. Some have never been out of the state of Texas & others had never experienced riding a charter bus, or both. Our students learned about the admissions process, new majors and careers, the renown Grambling Band, Clubs, Greek Organizations and more! They got to interact with the Student Government Association, some were able to eat in the Café and experience Soul Food Wednesday, where they served fried chicken, collard greens, black eyed peas & mac and cheese!! There were so many food options they didn’t know what to choose!

The college students & staff we came across were so welcoming to our students. A HUGE thank you to my BMS village, the community, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, educators etc. for making this possible.” #VikingNation💙
