Best Communities for Music Education

Tyler ISD, your hometown school district, celebrates the remarkable achievement of earning the prestigious Best Communities for Music Education designation from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for the sixth consecutive year.

Now in its 25th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students. This recognition underscores Tyler ISD’s unwavering commitment to providing exceptional music education opportunities to its students, enriching their lives through the power of music.

“Receiving the Best Communities for Music Education designation for the sixth year in a row is a testament to the dedication of all our music educators in Tyler ISD and, of course, the support of our community,” Chief Communications Officer Jennifer Hines said. “We are proud to provide our students with music education that fosters creativity, discipline, and a lifelong love of the arts.”

Nationwide, only 975 school districts were recognized for their outstanding efforts in music education. To earn this prestigious designation, Tyler ISD underwent rigorous evaluation, answering detailed inquiries about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs.

Research continues to affirm the profound benefits of music education for students. After just two years of music education, participants demonstrate significant improvements in reading scores and speech processing compared to their peers. Furthermore, students engaged in music are more likely to graduate high school and pursue higher education.

Tyler ISD remains committed to providing comprehensive music education that enhances cognitive skills and fosters social and emotional development in its students.
